Cross Country Skiing with Outdoor Group, Saturdays (with snow)
Bring your own skis and come Cross Country Skiing with the Outdoor Recreation & Nature Group any Saturday (weather-permitting)! This event is free (if you don't own any skis, you can rent them at Fin & Feather in Iowa City http://www.finfeather.com/ or UI's Touch the Earth Center http://www.recserv.uiowa.edu/programs/TTE/rentalcenter.htm.) Meet us at 10:00 a.m. any Saturday (when there is enough snow) at the MacBride Nature Recreation Area which boasts of 15 km of groomed trails, with room for skating, mostly easy beyond upper parking lot, mostly moderate to difficult between the parking lots. Directions: 15 min North of Iowa City . Take HWY 6 West through Coralville to 965 North to North Liberty . Turn right on Penn St and left onto Mehaffey Bridge Rd. (F28). Follow to the Nature Center , on left. (Or, go North on Dubuque St to North Liberty, then right on Mehaffey Bridge Rd.) There are maps near the entrance. Go past the first parking lot and follow the main road until you get to the end. Connections Movie Group, Sat. Feb. 3rd
Like to watch queer films with queer friends? Join the Connections Movie Group as it gathers in February at Kathy's on Saturday, February 3rd at 7pm. It's a great evening for staying out of the cold! Feel free to bring a movie to share. Everyone will vote on which movie(s) to watch, usually GLBT themed. Some beverages and snacks provided. Feel free to BYOB (or snacks or something else to share). A wine tasting fundraiser, co-sponsored by Connections, is set for 6:00 - 8:00pm, Sunday, Feb. 4th at the Piano Lounge, 217 Iowa Ave. , in Iowa City . A $20.00 suggested donation entitles you to taste a variety of wines provided by Dan Katalinich, who is certified by the Society of Wine Educators as a Wine Educator. Delicious appetizers will be provided as well. All the proceeds will go to the Iowa City Pride events.

Spiritual Seekers is a group for people of all faiths, or of little faith, who wish to make deeper connections between their sexual identities and the spiritual dimension in their lives. Meetings include discussion of specialized topics, telling of pieces of our faith journeys, and occasional prayer and meditation. Spiritual Seekers typically meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 320 E. College, Iowa City. Connections Outdoor Recreation & Nature Group, Tues. Feb. 26th
If you enjoy the great outdoors, come out, get outside, get some fresh air and make new friends! The Outdoor Recreation & Nature Group welcomes all GLBT people and friends to participate. Events are free and usually occur on the last weekend of the month. We hike, bike, camp, birdwatch, BBQ and cross country ski. It just depends on the season, the weather and the interest of the members. We are open to suggestions! UI Lesbian/Bisexual Women's Support Group, Tues Feb. 6th
For the spring 2007 semester, University Counseling Service's Lesbian and Bisexual Women's Support Group will be meeting on Tuesdays began on January 23rd. Meeting times last from 4:00pm until 5:30pm at the University Counseling Service at the University of Iowa. The group is available to lesbian and bisexual women who are enrolled in at least one credit hour at the University of Iowa . A brief meeting with Paula Keeton (the group facilitator) is required before a potential group member can attend their first group session. WRAC Lesbian Reading Group, Thurs. Feb. 15th and Feb. 18th
The Lesbian Reading Group is designed to offer Lesbians a safe, comfortable environment to have interesting discussions about good books. The goals of the group are to empower Lesbian women to learn from each other, and to provide a sense of community among the participants. This is a safe place for Lesbians to meet on a regular basis, relax, have coffee and engage in thought-provoking conversation. There will be 2 sections of this group this Spring -- one meeting every 3rd Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30, through May 3; the second meeting
every 3rd Sunday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, beginning January 28 through April 29. Participants may attend either section, space permitting. This group is free with a suggested donation of $10.00. The group meets at the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC), 120 S. Madison Street in Iowa City , Iowa . Parking is available in the ramp next door. SPACE IS LIMITED. Iowa City GLBT Pride Planning Committee, Sun. Feb. 11th
The Iowa City GLBT Pride Planning Committee invites you to come and participate in the planning process for this next year's Pride Celebration in June. We have been meeting since October and have set the date for our annual Pride march and rally for Saturday, June 16th. We will be meeting monthly on Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm at the Iowa City Public Library (typically in Room E upstairs). The meetings are open to the public and we are currently recruiting people to be active members on the committee. The next meeting will be on Sun. MoMENtum Sunday Brunch, Sun. February 14th and February 20 th
Similar to New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day (V.D.) is so often a disappointing bust that this year on the black Wednesday that is February 14th, MoMENtum is planning an Anti-Valentine's Day event at the LGBT Resource Center, which is located at 125 Grand Avenue Court in Iowa City; the LGBT Resource Center is a house sandwiched between the UI Field House and the UI Boyd Law Building. Parking is best done at the Filed House ramp or the lot just east of the Field House. Doors open at 5:00pm. Come and share your loveless V.D. with other lonely hearts, tasty comfort food, movies, music, and catty conversation. V.D. is no holiday.
On Tuesday, February 20th at 6:00pm, moMENtum collaborates with ICARE for a Mardi Gras Party at the LGBT Resource Center.We'll have food, zydeco music, beads, mask making, and other activities that make no references to Katrina. 2nd Annual Governor's Conference on LGBT, Feb 22nd
YouthThe 2007 Governor's Conference on LGBT Youth will be held on Thurs. February 22, 2007, at the Olmstead Center at Drake University , Des Moines . The 2nd Annual Governor's Conference on LGBT Youth is designed to provide information, resources, and enhance public understanding about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth. It is open to the general public, but it will be most beneficial to those interested in the safety and well-being of LGBT youth including educators, policy makers, parents, and students. The workshops and keynote presentations at the Governor's Conference on LGBT Youth will encompass a wide range of topics, including Gay Straight Alliances, Safe School Policies, Legal Issues, Health, Faith Communities, Changing School Climate, Gender Identity/Expression, and Anti-LGBT Discrimination in Schools. This year's keynote speakers will be Moisés Kaufmann, award-winning writer and director ofGross Indencency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde and The Laramie Project, and Brent Hartinger, author of many books for kids, teens, and adults, inluding GLBTQ-themed novels such as Geography Club. GLBT Speed Dating, March 4th
No Valentine this year? Then join us Sunday March 4, 5:30-7:00 p.m., at the Piano Lounge, 217 Iowa Avenue , Iowa City . Come to watch or join in on a round of fun speed dating. Everyone is welcome to attend, there will be a "seeking men to date" section and a "seeking women to date" section. Following the event there will be the regularly scheduled Sunday night Tea Time at 7 p.m. This event is a fund raiser for the Pride Committee. The minimum donation is $5 per participant or spectator, please donate more if you can. Iowa City Proud Families Group, meets monthly
Are you a parent? Or thinking about becoming one? You are invited to join the Iowa City Proud Families group for their monthly potlucks and other gatherings. Proud Families has been together as a group for over 5 years and have members that are in the family planning stages, up to children that are pre-teen. They get together once a month for a pot-luck play date where they can let the kids play with their peer group while the parents get to relax and chat. They also do some other events such as a Pride Party when they rented a gym in Iowa City for kids to have fun, trips to the zoo, apple orchard, and a camping trip that the kids love.
