This organization, TransCollaborations, exists primarily to plan and implement the annual UI TransWeek. TransWeek is a week of events that provides education, spirited discussions, and celebration of those who have overcome institutional and micro-level trans-related barriers. The first year of TransWeek was in 2009. We were quite successful in hosting a variety of events that ranged from an educational workshop to a movie screening and discussion, an art show opening celebrating trans-identified artists, and hosting the culminating event which brought Kate Bornstein and Coyote Grace to Iowa City. We were recognized by the University of Iowa through their Hawkeye Awards for Outstanding Diversity Awareness Programming. In addition to TransWeek, we also consider requests to conduct educational workshops on the UI campus and in the Iowa City community, in addition to speaker panels for engaging in dialogue around transgender and gender identity related conversations.
