American Heritage Dictionary: "German 'Paraffin': Latin 'parum,' too
little (see pou in Appendix*) + 'affinis,' neighboring (see affinity);
from its lack of affinity to other materials."
I'm guessing that, if 'parvum' were the source, we'd have parvaffin.
