MAMA's First Annual Spectrum Workshops and Business Meeting
Sunday, February 26 4:00-8:00 pm or so
"For the Love of Music"
Do you fall somewhere into the spectrum of:
beginner musician to advanced professional?
music lover to owner of a music venue?
car radio listener to Dead Head groupie?
If you find yourself within the spectrum of any of these, you must not miss the Mountain Area Music Association's First Annual Spectrum Workshops and Business Meeting this Sunday February 26th at 4:00 pm. This free event is open to members and the public and will be at Bergen Park's new music and dining venue, Tanglewoods. Tanglewoods is located on Bergen Parkway, just south of the turnabout in the Hiwan Barn shopping area. Plan to bring your instrument and come at 4:00 and stay through the dinner hour with food and drinks provided by this restaurant's world-class chefs.
The 4:00-5:00 pm workshop, led by a new band that has never before performed in public, will share with you great tips on putting your first band together and the trials and tribulations of trying to get even one song to sound halfway decent! Find out what is the glue that keeps a group together. Be sure to bring your guitar, kazoo, flute or whatever, as everyone in this workshop will be invited to contribute to to a 3-chord song in a hilarious jam! Those who come to this workshop are people who want to play just for fun and who would love to get to know one another a little better in this very informal setting.
The 5:00-6:00pm workshop features a band who will share with you little-known secrets on how to line up gigs where your band will be paid handsomely - that is, at least a bottle of good Merlot for the lead singer! You'll learn why the addiction to continued participation in music is good for your health and mental well-being. The band and workshop participants will share with you their experiences with the many open-mic venues and other opportunities to play music in the mountain area.
At 6:00 we will take a short break to have our annual business meeting--a requirement of the bylaws--and approve amended bylaws and elect board members. Let us know asap if you might be interested in serving on the board or on a committee---we really want and need your ideas and input.
During this hour the current board show you how to get the most out of your MAMA web site--your one-stop shop for finding other musicians, teachers, venues, and what is going on musically all over the mountain community.
The 7:00- to 8:00 workshop will be an exciting opportunity to learn what this MAMA group and other members have to share about getting on the radio, cutting CDs and expanding your opportunities to find audiences. Find out how to break into the growing business conference circuit or the ins and outs of playing at local festivals.
We will end the evening with a B-flat blues jam requested by a board member who has been practicing this progression for 6 months now, and would like to hear how other musicians do it. Come join us, meet other members and potential members, relax and have fun. By the way, we encourage you to not skip out for dinner during the business meeting. Someone with a long trombone may be baring the door! :>)
