Per an article in the 16 AUG issue of _The Industry Standard_ (
), AT&T is having to build a new Network
Operations Center right behind the old one, due to network load (IP traffic
up 400%, wireless systems being fielded, etc.).
"The current NOC is being torn down. Behind the building is a giant hole
in the ground, the site of the new center, a next-generation NOC. The new
center will have 142 4 foot by 5 foot screens, and six, instead of three,
teams of engineers will keep an eye on the traffic, troubleshoot the network,
and alert local operations to problems..."
