Jacque here, from Gainesville, Florida CodePINK. I wanted to
update y'all from what I hear up here in Gainesville Florida regarding the
Oct27 Orlando event and respond to Sheri, of Orlando, request for an inventory
of what the various Florida Chapters have for the Oct27 event.
Update as of Oct19 4 pm: Vets for Peace, Gainesville, is
organizing local rides and currently they have 12 people signed up for
Oct27. The University of Florida, UF, chapter of Students for
Democratic Society, SDS, expects a car of two as well as the UF Students Against
War, SAW, expect to travel down to Orlando in a couple of vehicles.
I've heard from a few other peace folks who will be driving down, so my
best guess at this point is about 50 from Gainesville committed as of today, Oct
Groups here in Gainesville want to know the rules for
vending at Lake Eola Park Oct 27; is vending of merchandise only or cold drinks,
too, and what about food? Are there public drinking fountains at
the Park as well as restrooms? Also, where do you suggest we park our
cars? Any other tips would be appreciated. Are there restaurants
Regarding CodePINK Florida Chapters vending, I think each Chapter
should bring their own literature table and merchandise to sell and be
responsible for their things. I think all the CodePINK Chapter tables
should be grouped together, but each should vend their own merchandise. I
have 500 business cards, on pink card stock that I can bring that says
CodePINK Women for Peace www.codepinkalert.org
and then it says
Join One of Our Local Florida Chapters: but it only lists orlando,
gainesville, tally, and tampabay -- (I had them printed about 2 years ago) but
they could write other info on the back of the card. I have about 200 Join
CodePINK flyers with my Gainesville contact info on them and I
have the CodePINKgainesville bookmarks How to Stop War. I also
hand out Peace Ribbon Project flyers. The Peace Ribbon will be
displayed in Delaware Oct27.
Sheri asked what banners, merchandise, equipment, etc. folks
had. Here is my list from Gainesville Chapter:
CODEPINK FLORIDA Women for Peace 8' banner white linen with shocking pink
paint lettering (on a dowel).
CREATE PEACE CodePINK Women for Peace 8' banner on pink linen tie dye with
black lettering (on a dowel).

I have 20 CodePINK tees, a dozen buttons, about 25 bumperstickers, about 8
Bush Blows bubbles; 72 pink bandannas
I have a pink table cloth, I have a 12'x12' red/white/blue scalloped
canopy--banners pink slips and signs can be hung from this nicely with
clothespins, I have lots of clothespins; , a 2x4 foot table I use to vend with,
a smaller table to serve the pink lemonade; a pink 5 gal bucket as well as a
little camp chair to sit on; I have a 2.5 gallon thermos cooler with a spout
that I vend pink lemonade with; I can bring it full of pink lemonade--I'm very
particular that whoever pushes the button have clean hands and I never let a
customer serve themselves -- I try to run a really neat, clean operation; I
also have a cooler for ice, an ice scoop, pink cardboard for signs, pink
cups, about 100 cups.
As I told Deidra, Leslie and Lydia, it really isn't a big deal
whether I vend or not ... just want to be clear about it upfront. Also, I
was not comfortable just putting all the CodePINK gear together
and charging $2 for everything. I think we should charge the website store
price for merchandise we sell. Also, I think that if there are other peace
groups vending, we should have plenty of literature and merchandise available
for folks from CodePINK and be represented well. I think we should
put forth a lovely effort. OK, I hear that some CodePINKs are
leaving as soon as the rally is over to attend another event at Epcot; so
I think it is doubly important that each of us be responsible for what be
bring, and keep track of it separately. That way people can take their
things and depart when they want.
I still think that the Oct27 event provides an opportunity for Pinks
around the state to meet, greet each other and, if at all possible, someone
in Orlando that knows the area, should provide a nearby place with about 15
reserved seats where CodePINKs can rendezvous after the rally, even for an
So far I have one rider and two volunteers to help me from
Gainesville, if I attend and if I vend. I understand that we cannot
get into the Park until 1 p.m.; when is the permit over and when do we have
to be out of there by? Where can folks drop off tables, chairs, canopies,
and that sort of thing and how far do things have to be carried to be set up at
the Lake Eola site?
Do you anticipate folks vending before or after the march?
Thanks for everything you do for peace!
