NEWS FROM GAINESVILLE INTERFAITH PEACE CENTER:
We are cosponsors of a local event co-ordinated with the national interfaith fast for peace on October 8.
The Gainesville fast is called "Pitching Our Tents Together." It will include both a fast and a potluck meal. on October 8. We will fast from sun up to sun down for an end to violence, specifically in Iraq, but also among our sisters and brothers in the Abrahamic community. The fast ends at sundown Monday, October 8, with a pot luck vegetarian meal and ritual of sharing at the United Church of Gainesville.
The event coincides with Ramadan, Christian World Wide Communion Sunday, and the end of Sukkoth.
The purpose of the event is to gather as people from a variety of faith communities, share the gifts of fasting, prayer, and then a meal as a means of transformation and empowerment for peace.
For more information about the fast or the discussion series, contact Eve MacMaster at 377-6577 or reply to this e-mail.
