Re: [codepinkorlando] Re. School of the Americas Watch gathering in Ft. Benning, Georgia
Hi Code Pink,
I have arranged for the tabling at Fort Benning for Code Pink for Saturday and also Saturday evening at the convention center. Myself and Jackie Betz will be doing the table, passing out literature, selling a few items, networking. We also have it for Sunday, if we decide to do that. This is my fourth year at SOA (www.soaw.org). In the past, I attended with the Green Party of Florida and on Sunday we didn't table but participated in the event instead.
It would be awesome if others could come and be a part of the procession on Sunday and carry the Code Pink banner. I don't have a banner, but hope someone else out there does. Anyone from Code Pink can meet us at the table all day Saturday or Saturday evening at the convention center. I am bringing two volunteers to help out also. So far, that is four people from Gainesville.
Most hotels in Columbus are full for the whole weekend by now, but if you look through AAA tour book for Phenix City, Alabama (across the river) you might find something. Also inquire at the SOAW website. In an emergency, I might be able to find you some floor space.
We know of a super good Thai restaurant near our hotel too. If you want to make a plan to meet-up, respond to this e-mail.
June from Global Exchange in SanFrancisco is going to meet us there on Saturday and do the table next to us for Global Exchange.
By all means, go to the www.soaw.org website to get a schedule of what is happening all weekend, from workshops, to music on Saturday night, civil disobedience training, videos showing, etc..
If you want to come, you better get on the ball right away. Time is passing by quickly. School of the Americas Watch will change your view of life in the good old USA. You will never forget it.

I am forwarding this email form Debbie Russell of CODEPINK in Austin, Texas. PLEASE respond to her and not to me about this. Thanks!

Greetings, CodePink from Austin checking in--I'm a
vigiler that's taken to pink in the last year and as I
missed going to last year's SOAW vigil, I'm not aware
yet of whether CP mobilized as a group for this vigil
then or if anyone's doing so now. I've emailed with
national folks who are asking for input on a call to
put out there, saying as of yet, nothing more than
having a table is planned as far as they know, so I'm
appealing to area leaders to see if there might be
some movement national doesn't know about or if
there's interest in building something fairly simple
if something isn't already in the works.
I'm actually 50/50 right now on if I can make it
there...but either way, I'd like to help in any way I
can. I'm thinking of just picking a place Sat.
evening or afternoon at the Sat. rally for a 'check
in' point or a place/time for an actual gathering of
some sort (quick coffee, perhaps dinner) -- and then
same thing for Sunday--we have a table, that could be
the check in point, then the table people can tell
those where ladies are gathering to vigil together if
they wish to join. Of course, that should be obvious
from all the pink! I was also thinking a simple group
message (we could even put out our own release
prior--the feminine perspective of SOA) that could be
easily transferred on to slips/pink cardboard, etc --
something simple like "SOA-YOU'RE FIRED!" or something
a little more dynamic than that...need help, still on
an election depression low. :(
So, if you have any thoughts -- please send to us all
(hope that's okay!). I think this is a great op to
make a pink stink!! :-)
Another thought--if anyone knows of anyone that's
going to cross the line, perhaps there's room to
persuade them to do so in pink if they are so inclined
to give that bent to their statement...then we as
pinkers could 'adopt' that pink prisoner and continue
to press the issue/support them throughout.
Cheers, Debbie Russell
