Looks like he is starting to do the backstroke from his earlier "stay the course" stand. I urge you to contact Sen. Nelson NOW - please take a moment. You can call him at 202-224-5274. FAX 202-228-2183. Or go through his website to send him a personal email note.Tell him the military portion of this war is OVER! The military will always offer a military solution -- that is what they do!! The military cannot bomb this country into peace. We need to send in peacekeepers; we need to bring our troops home NOW. Thanks for all you do - every call, every note, really matters. Let's take our country back!Jac.----- Original Message -----From: Bill@...To: jacquebetz@...Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 4:29 PMSubject: RE: Your response from Senator Bill Nelson

Thank you for contacting me regarding military operations in Iraq, and sharing your concerns about the continuing role of U.S. troops. I am working with my colleagues in the Senate and the leadership of our Armed Forces to ensure that our troops have everything they need to be successful.
My vote in support of the war was based on intelligence presented to me by the civilian and military leadership of the Defense Department, State Department, and Central Intelligence Agency. It is now clear that the intelligence analysis was not accurate. Nonetheless, our military today is essential to the eventual stability of Iraq. We cannot allow Iraq to fall into chaos and present an opportunity for terrorists to establish a base of operations.
I share your concern for our men and women in uniform, and, like all Americans, I grieve for every casualty. It is essential that we move more quickly to set up a trained and equipped Iraqi security force and a governmental structure that will lead to real stability. Like you, I am looking forward to that time, not least because it will enable the safe return of our troops.
I always appreciate hearing from Floridians who are informed about and interested in important issues for Florida and the nation. Please do not hesitate to contact my office on any other issue.
