WHAT ABOUT INNOCENTS SENTENCED TO DEATH ROW?
Join an informative evening with 3 speakers addressing the death penalty on Weds April 18 at 7pm in the lounge at the St Augustine Church and Catholic Student Center, 1738 W University Ave, Gainesville.
State Representative Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda, from Tallahassee, who has introduced a bill in the Florida Legislature to repeal the death penalty will discuss her bill, the exorbitant cost to the state and the growing concerns over the wrongfully convicted. Joining her will be David Keaton, the first Florida inmate exonerated from death row due to mistaken identification and coerced confessions. Hear him share his experience of 2 years on death row for a crime he didn't commit.
Attorney Jeremy Schroeder will also participate. He is the National Strategy Counsel for the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. He was previously the Executive Director of the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty where he led the campaign to repeal the death penalty in that state.
The program is presented by Gainesville Citizens for Alternatives to the Death Penalty and co-sponsored by Witness to Innocence (the only national organization composed of and led by exonerated death row prisoners) and St Augustine Catholic Church.
There will be a Question & Answer time and refreshments will be served. For more information call 352-378-1690.
