i am a computationally oriented linguist, working on - among other things -
multi-lingual text retrieval. i have a personal interest in code-switching:
my two sons are being raised bilingual in finnish-swedish, and their mutual
conversations provide hours of entertainment for a linguist. well -
minutes, really, since they are quite mobile. they are quite careful about
keeping each conversation monolingual, but at times they uphold two
interleaved conversations simultaneously in separate languages. and i am
trying to listen in to figure out what determines language choice.
i have a proposal to make for this group: could someone collect the
literature references, and set up a bibliography for the interested reader?
such a collection will be all the more valuable if it is subjectively
commented by several active researchers in the field.
