As I understand it, Pieter has terminal lung cancer. Our thots are with him and his. Please forward this on to any/all who played at the A&M tournaments that he organized sooooo well.

Subject: Pieter Slik in Memorial Hospital
Dear Hockey folks,
Those of us who've had the great fun of sharing Pieter Slik with his family will be saddened to know his health has deteriorated rather badly again. He is hospitalized at Memorial Hermann Hospital's Gessner location, and is in Room 803. He is not expected to survive the week.
I failed to get calls=2
0transferred to his room when he was less ill, so it may be hard to reach him. I also gather that although he's still periodically capable of holding a conversation, this isn't consistent. I did send him the card so many of you were able to sign, and I had hoped to bring him an ice-cream care package (he loved vanilla ice cream); however, he'll not be able to eat it. In an effort to support his family while he's still alive, I plan dropping by tomorrow with something to promote cavities among his loved ones.
As often as I've been able to get his wife Jose on the phone, I've relayed the well-wishes of the team. She's been appreciative of the support, and I wish there were something more useful I could do.
Nicole and I will be keeping Pieter and his family in or thoughts, and I thought you might want to as well. If you'd like to visit, you might want to coordinate with Jose (281) 857-0135. I'm sure that even if her phone is off, she'd appreciate messages left at a civilized hour :-)
Very best regards,
