I can agree with Joe. The press then was horrendous in factual reporting.
Some papers (Chicago Tribune & Joseph Medill for example) made up battles
that never took place in order to sensationlize the war. Even Brady moved
corpses to photographically sensationalized positions to enhance the effects.
This is one reason also that Sherman banned all reporters from the AOTT
except one who was a personal friend of McPherson. He even got Sherman's
anger by one report and he too was banished.
