Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
The past few months have certainly been a struggle--
especially with my finances. Living with two illnesses
is hard enough, but then you add in being a self-supported
missionary, and that makes things even trickier. Because of
low financial donations and rising healthcare costs, my
monthly paychecks were not covering half of my normal monthly
expenses. Needless to say, my worry meter climbed up a bit.
Unfortunately, the past few years have been characterized by
this type of penny pinching. It's been rough, but it's also
been amazing-- amazing to see God provide for my every need.
Sometimes He would send a special financial gift in the mail
or a have someone drop off a bag of groceries. How lovely to
think God cared enough about me to send me food just when I
Why do I worry so, when I know that God is watching over me?
Like Matthew 6:32-33 says, "So do not worry, saying, `What
shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we
wear?' for the pagans run after all these things, and your
heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first
His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will
be given to you as well."
What a relief and a comfort to know that God sees what I'm
going through and that He loves me enough to provide the very
things I need. This doesn't mean that I don't still worry
about my finances and growing debt, but it does mean that I
will try to put my trust in God --after all, He IS in control
of everything in this world!
Prayer: God, may I continually see how You provide for me. I
thank You in advance for the blessings You will shower down on me.
What would I do without You? May Your peace forever flow
over me. Amen.
