There seems to be a need to point out or to remind members of these various
mailing lists that egroups was bought out by the company yahoo. While I am
all sure we have our own opinion of the company yahoo (and I admit my view
isn't flattering to them) unless or until they go belly up OR I move the
lists to a new list service, the members of the list will have to deal with
Yahoo requires a yahoo id to be used. Most may have it already, however
you need to merge your egroups membership information with your yahoo
membership information. I am sorry to the inconvenience, however if I had
my way, egroups wouldn't have sold out to the greedy yahoo monster. (And we
know where it is getting Yahoo at the moment as well.) Mailing the list or
list owner will not help you out with egroup/yahoo issues. In some cases
it might be easier to un-subscribe and re-subscribe to the mailing list.
Again sorry for the inconvenience of the whole mess, but it is not of my
choosing or design. The advantage of all the services at yahoo may be
worth the inconvenience, however if it is the consensus of the list members
that this is not the case I can find a different list service (there are a
few out there) or if there is a equal list at rootsweb then it may be an
option to just faze out the lists rootsweb have copied (when I started each
of my surname lists there were none for the surname at rootsweb, since then
as many of you know they have added a number of the surnames to their lists).
These issues have become issues on a few of the lists in the past week (why
all of the sudden I don't have a clue as this yahoo stuff started last
year) so I thought I would attempt to keep it from disrupting all the lists.
