FYI. A link to the latest SPCM newsletter is above.
Due to the time involved printing up 300+ paper copies and the fact that we
haven't raised dues in a long time, we are going to be encouraging members
to receive electronic copies. This may be as simple as providing the
above link. Some debate the value of a newsletter as a membership perk when
it's free to the public. Personally I figure it may help convince more of
the public to join and/or contribute. We aren't going to be picky about the
$5 paper copy fee initially. And for those who contribute over $100 per
year and want to keep receiving paper copies - no problem. But eventually we
have to cover increasing postage and other costs.
Once our $5,000 annual mortgage support check is received from the Frank B.
Foster Charitable Trust - and sent to USDA this month, we will have sent a
total of $41,000 this fiscal year. Our goal is $52,801 by September. The
steam gauge on our website has been increased to reflect this amount.
Our annual financial goal is $180,000, which divided by four would be a
quarterly goal of $45,000. The first quarter results (based on bank
deposits) are included. It's been suggested just to have the annual goal and
current total, so we'll probably go that route for next time. Also planning to
list major expenses so folks get an idea of what we're doing and where we
still need some help.
Memberships and donations are essential and help us keep going. We are
discussing painting the starboard side of the SS City of Milwaukee this
summer, and will be developing a proposal for the Frank B. Foster Charitable
Trust. They've awarded our project $176,000 to date for capital improvements
and mortgage support. David Heckaman has also expressed an interest in
funding additional work. We hope the new Caretaker membership will be of
interest. Your contributions also help keep the staff paid, the lights on, the
fire extinguishers charged, the decks washed, books written about our
history, and more.
And don't miss your chance to win up to $5,000.
