Science Fiction author Arthur C. Clarke (2001 - A Space Odyssey)
formulated three laws. The third I hear and use often and as all
three came up in conversation at a dinner I attended this weekend, I
wanted to continue the discussion here.
Clarke's First Law States that "When a distinguished but elderly
scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly
right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very
It is the second sentence that has always struck me as the most
profound, especially in the field brainwave entrainment and subliminal
suggestions. Oceanographers like to point out, often in their
requests for grants, that we know more about the solar system and its
planets than we do about the oceans of Earth. I would like to point
out that we know even less about the mind and how it does what it does.
Yet we have those in the 'established' sciences that come out and say
that there is no basis to think that brainwave entrainment and
subliminals suggestions are of any benefit what ever. And Madison
Avenue spends billions each year on subliminals to make you buy
products without having a clue as to why one seems better to you.
The second law states:The only way of discovering the limits of the
possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
This is one of the facets of brainwave entrainment, subliminal
suggestions, NLP, hypnosis, Lucid Dreaming and other technologies that
has always fascinated and attracted me. How can we push the limits of
what we do or are there new or refined techniques that we can derive
from existing ones. Vocoding was a musical toy that was popularized
by a number of groups to give their voice the quality of whatever
instrument they vocoded with. It is a common tool to embed
affirmations into sound masks now. A few years ago the idea of a home
EEG to measure entrainment was out of the question. Now with Open
EEG, you can put together a working 2 channel EEG for around $300 and
a four channel for around $450. I remember the debate years ago when
it was said that digital music was impossible since you would lose the
'phase nuances' of the piece. Glad they kept pushing the impossible
We practice the second law with respect to our programs. They are
tested internally to be sure they work but since we are all used to
being entrained and can usually reach most states without assistance,
we also go to our base of customers to beta test products we feel they
might be interested in. Beta testing just requires an agreement to
listen to the program a certain amount of time each day and record the
progress and your experiences for us. Being asked to beta test is an
extra benefit of being a customer. If you're already a customer and
haven't been asked then drop us and email at
. We'll reply right away and let you know
how to get signed up. If you aren't a customer, buy something and
let us know you want to be a part of the program.
The third law and most widely known states: Any sufficiently advanced
technology is indistinguishable from magic.
This is very true and nowhere more so than in the behavior
modification field. I see the word 'magic' in so many emails from
people who have tried group therapy, 12 step programs, straight will
power or whatever program was advertised on TV or at the
bookstore...and failed over and over again. They talk about how it
was like 'magic' that the issues of the past were now going
away...painlessly. Changing our lives, whether breaking or creating
habits and changing our beliefs about certain things doesn't need to
be a painful experience. You just have to remember to keep the
program going in the background - the more you listen, the faster the
results come and the more dramatic they'll be.
I recently had a customer write me about the 'magic' he had
experienced with the beta of the 'WILD' (Waking Induction Lucid
Dreaming) program. He had purchased the original Super Lucid Dreaming
Program about 2 years ago and after using the beta for 2 weeks wrote
me; "Its like magic. I put on the program, start to relax and
suddenly - I'm there. The other subliminal programs I have seem to be
working faster now too since I get a chance to act out the behaviors I
want in the Lucid Dreaming session. I LOVE IT!" Magic? No, just
pushing the limits a little to get a technology that seems like it.
BTW - That additional CD comes with the Super Lucid Dreaming package
now for no additional cost. If you aren't Lucid Dreaming regularly,
you are missing out on a truly phenomenal experience.
