I did not "rejected" all US makers. First I wanted a COMPLETE SYSTEM, not parts. Second,
if possible, I did not like to wait a year. Third: do you have an idea of custom regulations
(extra costs), shipping overseas, and complications in case one needs to ship back
anything for assistance?
Obsession was ruled out because 1) I did not feel comfortable with Torus and 2) at a
certain point it was clear to me that Obsession was giving me a structure plus a mirror,
not a complete system (missing final integration and testing). I lastly felt there were too
many open loops (at least for me).
Other than Obsession, Stramaster was not exporting outside US at that time; Starsplitter
had a too long and uncertain "ping" time (long emails answer times... imagine making an
order from the other side of the ocean). I also considered Portaball and Teleport (in this
case the UK scopes by Chris Gravey, after having several contacts with Tom), but in the
end I decided I wanted the 16" size first (maybe in the future I could buy a ~7-8" size for
portability). Then I was not aware of other manufacturers. TScopes did not yet exist, I did
not know Plettstone, and MoonDance did not feel comfortable about shipping overseas
and I did not insist.
If I had to buy ONLY a mirror I would have felt comfortable buying a Swayze, a Pegasus
and a few others, of which I found direct positive witnesses (esp. from people who had
their mirror refigured by them with great results). Or I would have bought a mirror from
