On a recent New Year's road trip to Vanderhoof to
visit the "in-laws", my fiancée and I enjoyed a winter road trip. While not
principally a birding trip, the following highlight species were
1 Great Grey Owl - seen on a fence post off Highway
97 about 4 kms north of 70 Mile House
2 Northern Pygmy-Owl - one near Williams Lake and
another north of Cache Creek
1 Merlin - south of Williams
2 Rough-legged Hawk - north of Williams
1 Northern Shrike - just south of 100 Mile
40 Trumpeter Swan - on Stuart Lake at Fort St.
Furthermore, a Blue Jay
seen regularly at a feeder in Vanderhoof just before Christmas
could not be relocated, but could still be in the area.
Cheers and Happy New Year,
