Internationally-known composer John Bell will present a day of interactive workshops Saturday, October 6 for Choral and Church Music Directors. The workshop will be held at Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church (1329 Seventh Avenue, San Francisco), who is co-sponsoring the workshop with the First Congregational Church of Berkeley.
Dr. Bell, of Scotland's Iona Community, lectures and conducts seminars across Europe, North America, Australia and most recently South Africa. A prolific composer, author and broadcaster on national television and radio in Great Britian, he has been honored by the Royal School of Church Music and the University of Glasgow, which have respectively bestowed on him a Fellowship and a Doctorate.
October 6 Workshop Schedule:
8:30 AM - Registration and continental breakfast
9:00 AM - Noon - Improving Congregational Song - Singing Together with Integrity; explores ways in which congregational song can be enlivened and improved.
1:30 PM - 5:00 PM - The Lost Tradition of Lament & Ancient Gifts for Modern Times; in contemporary culture, songs of disquiet, protest and questioning are seldom sung - this workshop explores recapturing the tradition of lament.
