Auditions: The High Seas Jazz Vocal Octet
Monday, June 12, 2006, 7-9 PM at the St. Francis Yacht Club
The High Seas is an all woman vocal jazz octet sponsored by the St.
Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco. We're a tight-knit, fun-loving
group which performs challenging, original SSAA arrangements of
standard and "not so standard" jazz tunes. We perform both a cappella
and accompanied (piano or trio), at numerous Bay Area and St. Francis
Yacht Club events. We rehearse Monday evenings, 7-9 p.m. at the Yacht
Club, on the San Francisco Marina.
The positions currently available are soprano 1 (lead), soprano 2,
and alto 1. Candidates should have a love of vocal jazz, sight
reading ability, excellent pitch, good stage presence and the ability
to sing without vibrato. You must be able to commit to weekly Monday
night rehearsals as well as performances and occasional extra
rehearsals. We're looking for a good blend with the group, vocal and
Auditions will be held on Monday, June 12, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. at the
St. Francis Yacht Club. In addition to singing two numbers with the
group, auditioners are asked to prepare a solo, preferably a jazz
standard, which can be sung a cappella, over prerecorded
accompaniment, or with simple piano accompaniment provided by our
director. Please bring a chart for the accompanist, or a tape or CD
and a boombox. Music and tapes for the group numbers will be provided
Successful candidates will join the group on a six month to one year
trial period, after which they will be eligible to join the St.
Francis Yacht Club as an Associate Member. Associate Members enjoy
the privileges of Yacht Club membership, but pay reduced dues.
