Most medical textbooks tend to say arachnoid cysts (ac) are incidental findings, but we beg to differ. Within this support group, you will find many of us share the same symptoms, so how can we all be wrong? One day with enough voices our hope is to update those medical textbooks with research and case studies. So, please feel free to print any material you find here and take it to your next doctor's appointment! If you are having trouble getting a doctor to believe the cyst is indeed causing problems, get more opinions. If you need help dealing with headaches, look for a nuerologist(nl). If you want help with your symptoms, look for a nuerosurgeon(ns). Arachnoid Cysts are cerebrospinal fluid-filled sacs that may develop between the surfaces of the brain or on the arachnoid membrane. They may also expand into the space between the pia mater and subarachnoid space. Most cases start in the womb or because of head trauma. Symptoms of AC are related to the cyst size and location, and may include: headaches, seizures, hydrocephalus, increased intracranial pressure, developmental delay, behavioral changes, hemiparesis (weakness or paralysis on one side of the body), nausea, dizziness, memory and processing(step by step instructions) problems, difficulty with mentally focusing, twitching, numbness and tingling, blurry vision plus other visual disturbances, tinnitus, mood swings, panic attacks, etc. Check out the database and polls to find out more about others with our disease.
