MobiPlus to Invest $100mn in Romania's
First TETRA Network
The holder of the first Romanian license issued for
a TETRA radio communications network, MobiPlus has recently announced it would
invest up to $100mn during the next two years in the development of the network.
The tender for the 10-year TETRA license took place earlier this month.
network will be developed in several stages. On initial stage, scheduled for the
upcoming six months, the service will become operational in six big cities
across the country. The second stage will last another six months and will
consist in expanding the network along the major roads in Romania. Two years
from now all Romanian cities with over 100,000 inhabitants and all roads
enjoying national status should be covered.
According to the business plan,
MobiPlus expects some 28,000 users in the first year of operation and about
150,000 in 10 years. "The local market is severely underdeveloped, there's no
national coverage network available, but merely local networks," said MobiPlus
