I've presented a brief summary of Steiner's view of the 'War of all against all' below, the accuracy of which can be easily checked by consulting Steiner's Apocalypse of St John, lecture 8. Der Staudi has presented a longer account of what he either understands by this concept, or wishes to present as propaganda (the commonplace level of dishonesty in his scholarship makes it hard to know which interpretation is correct), in WC message 22856:
"In this book [the Apocalypse of St. John], Steiner explains that the coming "War of All against All" will serve
to separate the racial wheat from chaff...:
'All those will participate in this marriage [of intellect and spirit] who take into themselves the
impulse of Christ Jesus and they will form the great brotherhood which will
survive the great War, which will experience enmity and persecution, but will
provide the foundation for the good race.'
Steiner embeds these teachings in his complex theory of racial evolution..."
It's worth noticing that the full contents of Der Staudi's message, which ostensibly relates to the WOAAA, echoes his first and last sentences and mostly concerns the general topic of racism, Der Staudi's specialist scholarly interest. But Steiner's concept of the WOAAA, which involves a purely individual choice as to whether to follow the path of the higher or lower ego, has nothing to do with 'race' - it is a free, supra-national, supra-ethnic, choice - and the 'war' will in any event be amongst the group choosing the path of the lower ego. Der Staudi in his 'scholarship' always chooses the least representative and most damning of evidence from Steiner's works to buttress his opinions, but even with this advantage he sometimes can't help letting Steiner's real view come out. So, in the Steiner quote that he's selected above, the 'good race' 'will experience enmity and persecution', they will not inflict it. The WOAAA will be amongst those of the 'lower race' not between them and the 'higher'.
He continues trying to mix 'race' into the concept of the WOAAA with his comment at the end of his post:
'Steiner then explains that these racially declining groups who are incapable of
further development will not be able to join "the good race" after "the War of All against All (141)'
What Steiner actually says here, in lecture 8, is the opposite of this and confirms the view he expresses elsewhere that the 'good race' will be drawn from all the people of the earth, whatever nationality or ethnicity, and will consist simply of those *individuals* who choose the path of the higher ego:
"After the War of All against All, there will be two streams in humanity: on the one hand the stream of Philadelphia will survive with the principle of progress, of inner freedom, of brotherly love, a small group drawn from every tribe and nation; and on the other hand the great mass of all those who are lukewarm, the remains of those who are now becoming lukewarm (Laodicea)."
Similarly to my debate with Der Staudi on Steiner, Ostwald and materialism, the subject of the WOAAA can be seen to be a good one for illustrating the duplicitous techniques Der Staudi is willing to use to support his ongoing goal of attacking anthroposophy (most likely motivated out of a sense of competition between anthroposophy's vision of a future, progressive society and his own Social Ecologic version). It similarly illustrates the cult-like mentality of his loyal cohort of 'critics' and fellow fundie atheists on WC, who never question any of these unsubstantiated Der Staudi interpretations.
The pursuit of the scholarship of group interests, such as that by Der Staudi (far left in his case), over that of truth, and the willingness to use dishonesty to achieve objectives may be a part of the academy these days, especially as such scholarly delinquencies have not prevented Der Staudi's professional advancement. If this is so, we can perhaps see the existence of scholars like him as a symptom of a larger degeneration in the academy, the evolution of an academic 'evil race'; but, from my experience, the majority of academics still value the traditional standards of truth and honesty and so it will probably be a while yet before the academic 'war of all against all' begins!

Ulf has been asking Der Staudi on the likelihood of an early WOAAA between Steiner groups, such as the Swedish Waldorf schools (Ulf appears to be Swedish), and the wider world. If we add to this the Staudenmaierian thesis that the WOAAA will be a racist confrontation, and the subsequent interpreted of it by Erik as being prefigured by the support of some anthros for fascism in the '30s, we have evidence of a uniform level of confusion on WC as to what the concept of the WOAAA refers to. Bearing in mind that 'Rafael' quoted several relevant parts of Steiner's work on the concept, this demonstrates a remarkable resistance on the part of WC against understanding it. So what is the concept? Well it has nothing to do with Erik's current ruminations on whether Judith von Halle (who is allegedly either 'deranged' or 'fraudulent') might lead a phalanx of anthros into a 'final battle', Waco style.
> The concept actually refers to the opposite of WC fundie atheist speculations and instead refers to a confrontation between the *individuals* of the future who chose the path of the lower ego, of an egotistical anti-Christian direction (and are the 'lower race' in Steiner's terminology). These people, if the prediction comes true, will fight each other out of a desire to take all for themselves. The people who take the Christian path of the higher ego (the Pauline 'not I but the Christ within me', and the 'higher race' in Steiner's terminology) will not be part of this, as they will have no desire to have power over others or to gain more for themselves at another's expense. The future WOAAA will *not* be a battle between the 'lower and higher races' but one purely amongst those of the 'lower race'. As anthroposophy was instigated by Steiner to raise people's awareness of the new Christian path of the higher ego, anthroposophists are not assumed to be part of the war of the future either. In fact, the only kinds of people that are supposed to be in this war are this likes of Ulf, Erik, Der Staudi and the rest that reject the path of the higher ego. Ulf can be on the look out for as many Swedish Waldorf conflagrations as he likes but unfortunately he will be looking in the wrong direction.
> I find it interesting and intriguing watching the peregrinations of the WC in trying to understand basic Steiner concepts like this. They have such difficulty, frequently not getting even the beginnings of some concepts right, that it's natural to wonder if there is some group-wide impediment that prevents such understanding. And of course it's likely that there is: they generally subscribe to a cult-like adherence to atheism and denial of the existence of the spiritual, which must make it difficult for them. Letting such people take charge of trying to understand a spiritual system of thought like Steiner's (and their leader and his German friend and colleague are indeed supposedly world-class authorities on anthroposophy) is rather like commissioning a study of the phenomena of colour from a group of blind people. For anyone that finds the whole process a comedy, I'm sure that this kind of laughably incompetent misapprehension of basic spiritual concepts will continue on WC for many years to come (it's already been going on for nearly two decades).
