I just wanted cross post this information to all those who might be
interested in the study of Western martial arts. Die Schlacht Schule
is dedicated to the study of medieval martial arts. We focus
particularly on Ringeck, Liechtenauer, Le Jeu de la Hache, and
Talhoffer, in the German tradition of medieval combat form of the
13th-15th century, either in or out of armor. I personally work out
with these folks and have been very pleased with the training and the
knowledge of the instructor. You will learn and gain experience in
several weapons forms including long sword/half sword, poleaxe,
dagger, spear, and sword and buckler. You will even be exposed to
armored and unarmored wrestling techniques.
I have found there to be several applications of the techniques
taught to be applicable to the SCA heavies and unarmored combat
list. If you are interested in more information please feel free to
contact me or follow the links below.
For anyone who's interested in Western Martial Arts in the Los
Die Schlachtschule, or The School of Battle, is a school dedicated to
the practice of medieval German martial arts. We study a range of
forms appropriate for knightly combat on foot both in and out of
armor based on techniques taken from a variety of medieval
Fechtbücher or fencing manuals, mostly from the 15th century. Unlike
other WMA schools, however, we have a focus on Harnischfechten, or
armored combat, with a special emphasis on the ultimate hand-to-hand
weapon of the period: the pollaxe. We also practice grappling,
dagger, longsword, spear, halfswording and sword & buckler.
Our chief instructor has more than 30 years experience in various
martial arts, more than 20 years experience in the SCA (and is an
Eastern knight and Count who made significant efforts to bring more
authentic combat into the SCA) and more than ten years experience
studying historical combat.
Our classes meet Wednesday evenings in Van Nuys and Saturday
afternoons in North Hollywood. Newcomers need bring nothing, we have
extras of all of our equipment. Classes cost $5.00 each.
