LOEG 5: This straightforward issue seemed less full
of wonders than the previous 4. Seeing the famous characters brought together in
the previous issues was thrilling, but now the pieces are all in place, what's
left, apart from standard action adventure fare? Can we expect Alan to up the
ante with Mycroft Holmes, or a contemporary appearance by his brother? In any
case, I suspect bleating "it's not as good as it used to be" would be immensely
Note page 20, panel 3; Nemo looks rather like
another famous figure of fantastical illustra-fiction.
Aristeidis, thanks for the tipoff about Titan's
collected Halo Jones. Finally I'll get to see how it ends!
Other artists for LOEG? Philip Bond springs to
mind. I wonder if excessive realism of style, as in, say, John Ridgeway's work,
would dilute the larger-than-life characters? It's academic, of course; I'll be
more than happy with Kevin O'Neill's excellent illustration for the duration of
the title and its followups.
