the position of Associate Editor for The Alabama Review, a journal of

The individual in this position will manage all editorial processes of
The Alabama Review, a peer-reviewed academic journal of state history,
under the supervision of the faculty editor; responsibilities include
substantive editing and revision of articles, coordinating peer review
of manuscript submissions, coordinating preparation and editing of book
reviews, preparing camera-ready copy using desk-top publishing software,
and coordinating production/mailing with a commercial printer. The
individual will also be responsible for compiling, writing, designing,
producing, and distributing the History Department's semi-annual
newsletter, and maintaining and updating the History Department's Web
The minimum qualifications are a Bachelor's degree from an accredited
institution in U.S. History, English, Technical Writing, Communications,
Journalism, or related field, and four years editorial or writing
experience. Mastery of English grammar and effective written
communication, strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational
skills are also required. Applications should include: a letter of

Desired qualifications are an advanced degree in U.S. History, English,
Technical Writing, or Humanities plus experience with Chicago Manual of
Style, InDesign software for desktop publishing, and HTML editing
