Just a note to let you know that Apologetics Index is moving to a new server...
Recently, we moved Religion News Blog to a new website hosting company. The move was made because the site had, according to a technician, become "too popular" for our former host provider. (Mind you, many of these companies oversell their servers, which means your site shares the computer's resources with sometimes up to 2,000 other sites. Usually this works just fine, because most web sites have relatively few pages and don't use much bandwidth. Problems occur when a server also is home to a huge web site that draws a large number of visitors and therefore uses a high percentage of the server's resources.)
While Religion News Blog quickly outgrew its share of our former host's MYSQL database server, which crashed repeatedly, Apologetics Index has been having its own share of problems. Huge visitor numbers contribute to 'server strain,' which is why visitors frequently see a "maximum treshold reached" error. In addition, every month since last January Apologetics Index has been precariously close to reaching its monthly 30GB bandwidth limit. And this month, our host has let us know that we will run out of our allotted bandwidth before the current month is over (which means the site would be unceremoniously suspended until May 1st).
Religion News Blog currently runs on a hosting package that costs us $44.95/month (vs. $7.95/month at the old place). This buys us lots of space, bandwidth and resources that should keep the site happy for a while. (I should also mention that customer and tech support provided by our new host is, well, superb. In several decades online, I have seen nothing like it).
Our new hosting company has just started a special that offers trial accounts on the same package at $2/month for the first three months. After praying about it, Janet and I have decided to move Apologetics Index to this hosting package as well. This means that we will soon have to pay $89.90/month in hosting fees - something our budget simply won't allow. (Friends refer to our budget as a "faith builder" :) Fortunately, we have already received some donations that take care of these costs through June.
Starting tomorrow, the address change will be propagating to DNS (domain name servers) around the world - a process that can take anywhere from 48-72 hours. Should you at some point receive an error message when trying to visit Apologetics Index, it is lkely that a) your local DNS server has not yet been updated, and b) that it has therefore sent your browser to the old address, and c) that the site at the old address was shut down for exceeding the 30GB/month traffic limit. Once your local DNS server is updated, you'll see Apologetics Index at its new location.
You will not have to update bookmarks and web links.
