A few quick, time-sensitive things.
First, tonight and tomorrow is the NY premiere of Desdemona, the collaboration between the sublime Rokia Traore, Toni Morrison and Peter Sellars, as part of Lincoln Center ’s White Light Festival. You can use the code ROKIA for special discounts, too. See below for more info, including a link to a great review from the LA Times, a preview video and more. I’m going tonight – it should be really special.
The reason I’m going tonight, and not tomorrow, is that on Thursday, Nov 3, we have an amazing free show in the David Rubenstein Atrium – the astounding 30+ piece circus punk marching band Mucca Pazza, http://mucca-pazza.org/ from Chicago. They were incredible opening for Balkan Beat Box at Lincoln Center Out of Doors two summers ago – and they will be positively explosive in the intimate Atrium space. Come early…And did I mention, they have cheerleaders? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4D9soZpf7w
Also coming up in the David Rubenstein Atrium for Target Free Thursdays, Gilbert & Sullivan Players, Mimi Goese & Ben Neill’s Songs for Persephone, the Raymond Scott Orchestrette and more. Check out the complete schedule here: http://new.lincolncenter.org/live/index.php/atrium.
Finally, we’re getting down to the wire for our Kickstarter campaign for globalFEST 2012. As you may know, Kickstarter is all or nothing. If we don’t reach our full $10,000 goal, we get nothing. We’re relying on this support to help keep ticket prices and venue capacity down. And with a donation of $50 or more, it includes your ticket, a $40 value, so we ask those of you who are considering going to make a donation – higher support will also include special access and other great gifts. We’ve announce the full line-up, and believe me when I say that it’s really a great edition. See below for all the information. Many of you have already supported us – if so, thanks! And please consider spreading the word by forwarding our info thru email, Facebook or Twitter. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/445430954/globalfest-2012

What the press says
globalFEST is something like a whirlwind tour captained by a cosmopolitan disc jockey, hopping from Guadeloupe to Transylvania, Senegal to the Louisiana bayou,
Paris to Siberia .
Last year, I was a kid in a candy store; this year, we're all in for a treat, so spread the word.

Some of the bands could have melted the ice on the nearby streets.

gF (January 8, 2012) is a creatively curated bright spot for music lovers in the dark days of early January. It's also a party, turning winter doldrums into a multi-continent romp on three-stages, at one of downtown New York 's hippest venues. The event takes place on three stages at Webster Hall, and with one ticket, festival-goers can see twelve acts in one night, representing diverse global styles.
We have just started a kickstarter campaign to raise funds for gF 2012. gF is a not-for-profit, completely volunteer run event, and your contribution allows us to keep the ticket price the same for the 9th consecutive year. If we exceed our fundraising goal, we'll be able to invest more money into the newly announced globalFEST Touring Fund (gFTF), funded by a grant from the Ford Foundation, which supports tours of previous gF performers, enabling them to reach new markets across the United States. More on that to the left.
Join at the $50 level and you'll get a ticket to globalFEST (already a $40 value) + an mp3 mix tape. Give at a higher level and you'll get all kinds goodies + a brand-new t-shirt. At any level, your contribution goes a long way!
gF2012 promises to fill the multiple, varied performance spaces at Webster Hall with irresistible dance sounds, reflective beauty, and singer-songwriter intensity.
Get on our mailing list and get the latest updates.
We truly appreciate your support at all levels!

In 2003 representatives of three of the US 's most vital arts organizations joined together to create globalFEST, a groundbreaking 1-night, 3-stage, 12-band world music festival, which concert goers pay one price to see. The showcase festival seeks to move international music to the center of the performing arts field by coinciding with the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) conference.
Over 8 festivals, globalFEST has become one of the US 's most highly anticipated and diverse cultural events and an essential catalyst for the world music field in North America . In 2010, globalFEST incorporated into its own non-profit organization.
Isaac Guzman wrote in The Daily News, "Aside from the high quality of the artists, what's striking about globalFEST is that it does away with typical notions of what constitutes world music."
The festival directors are Bill Bragin of Acidophilus: Live & Active Cultures, Isabel Soffer of Live Sounds and Shanta Thake of Joe's Pub at The Public Theater.

New globalFEST touring fund
The gF Touring Fund (gFTF) is a unique program made possible by a generous grant from the Ford Foundation to support the festival and its mission of cultivating the world music market by showcasing tour-ready artists and expanding world music audiences.
All past and present globalFEST performers are eligible to apply for a competitive grant for reimbursement of qualified touring expenses, helping to defray the costs of coming to and traveling within the U.S.
Artists will have two opportunities to apply for funding.
