This is going out a bit late, so I am going to really really let the schedule speak for itself - and suffice it to say that my plan is to be here almost everyMessage 1 of 1 , Jun 1, 2006View SourceThis is going out a bit late, so I am going to really really let the schedule speak for itself - and suffice it to say that my plan is to be here almost every single night for the next 2 weeks or so - that's how excited I am about this next run of shows. Sometimes I can hint at special favorites - there are so many of them below, and so many shows that I am expecting to be revelatory, that you should just read the descriptions, check the song links, and make a point of being here as much as you possibly can. You want rock n'roll infused modern dance - you got it. You want hard driving honky-tonkin' blues and soul from living musical legends, we got it. You want incendiary bluegrass, you got it. You want rip-your-heart-out singer-songwriters, you got it. You want indescribably brilliant songwriters and raconteurs like Nellie McKay and Stew who don't fit in to any boxes, you got it. You want art-pop from Vegas and Italy - you got it. You want soul-infused Latin jazz, you got it. Keep reading below and see you soon. And since last week was a holiday week, you may have missed some of the new shows just added . We've added still more, like 2 more shows with Hazel Dickens and Bonny Billy (aka Will Oldham), one of my favorite songwriters working in Brazil today - Lenine (who I literally have been trying to book here since before I even started here 5 years ago, and lots more. so don't miss your early warnings on the right hand side of the page. Can you believe it's already JUNE?????

Shoegazing Electronic J-Pop
THURS, JUNE 1
- Jon Pareles, NY Times
Asobi Seksu have always been masters at creating musical textures; gauzy, cloudy dreamscapes for their slower songs and squalls of guitar and daisy-chained effect pedals for their barnstormers. What truly distinguishes their latest release, Citrus, though, is that the band has now married this ability to a finely honed pop sensibility. The songs here aren't just "pretty," they're melodically rich and incredibly catchy. As their captivating live show attests, Asobi Seksu have outgrown the comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and Lush, and have finally realized their potential as one of New York's greatest bands. True to its name, Citrus is every bit as sweet and delicious as it sounds.
