Earlier this year, one of my other accounts was auto-switched to the new mail. Then, a few months ago, I was using a friend's Nook to try to check email. The browser wasn't happy with the new mail and enabled me to set it back to Classic. It's remained in Classic since then. I don't remember which browser, but I was able to make the change that way.

don't know, but a friend of mine moved to another state, and when she went to connect to yahoo on her new internet connection, they automatically put her on new mail. she was not a happy camper, but i had sent her the link from silk back then on how to switch back.
