Subject: Fw: Ceremony for Memorial Plaque of Traveling Vietnam Memorial
Ceremony Will Dedicate Memorial Plaque at the Site of Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall
South Portland -- In a fitting tribute to Maine's veterans, on November 10 (Veteran's Day) Bob Barnes of Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Parlor will present to Southern Maine Community College, the city of South Portland, and the State of Maine, a bronze plaque to commemorate the site of the 2006 The Dignity Memorial® Vietnam Wall. The three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., was on display August 11-13, at Spring Point Light Shoreway at the SMCC campus.
The ceremony will take place at the site at 1 pm and will include words from South Portland Mayor Maxine Beecher and SMCC President James Ortiz and the Color Guard from the Brunswick Naval Air Station. The memorial will remain at Fort Preble and serve as a reminder of the Americans who served in Vietnam and all veterans of the U.S. military.
More than 48,000 visitors toured the site this past summer.
We will be serving light refreshments and beverages after the ceremony in the dining hall.
