A big thank you to the owners of Adam Morgan’s El Rincon Español Restaurant for the great hospitality last night. We were accompanied by a great crowd to include Jerry Clark, Keshini Ladduwahetty and a great group of friends from DC for Democracy, Councilmember Jim Graham and Commission Gregg Edwards, and a large group of visitors from Argentina who came to watch the U.S. elections, amongst other guests.
Congratulations to our re-elected President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Last night was a victory for many, including the Republican Party, which now is forced to recognize that the country HAS changed. For the first time, one fifth of the members of the U.S. Senate will be women, including an openly gay woman from Wisconsin.
On the Latino side, data shows that Latinos came out in large numbers to support the re-election of Barack Obama and other Democrats. “The Latino Decisions polls indicate that nationwide and in battleground states Obama won Latino voter support over Romney by historic margins – 72 percent to 23 percent nationwide, including: in Colorado, Obama won Latino voters by 87 percent-10 percent margin; in New Mexico, by a 77 percent-21 percent margin; in Nevada, by an 80 percent-17 percent margin; in Ohio, by an 82 percent-17 percent margin; in Virginia, by a 66 percent-31 percent margin; and in Florida, by a 58 percent-40 percent margin.” -Fox news.
So in addition to congratulating the winners, we should also thank the many, including President Obama, who work hard to ensure that opportunities are there for ALL of us to succeed.
