War of 1812 themed events coming up at Museum London (the one in Ontario, that is).
Theatrical Production When the Ice Breaks
Sunday, April 7, 2:00 pm
Toronto-based Down and Out Productions shares their interactive, family-friendly play based on the War of 1812 with Londoners. This 90-minute play, with live folk music, will be enacted in the midst of our exhibition Stories of War: A Personal 1812. Rather than a re-enactment of historic events, the play focuses on personal stories such as the life of a typical household in Upper Canada at the time. Audience members are invited to travel through kitchens, sitting rooms and back passageways, getting an intimate view of the lives of settlers. Formed in 2008, Down and Out Productions was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore award in 2010 for Best Ensemble, Independent Lecture Theatre, and the re-mount of their production The Dining Room was touted one of 2011s Riveting Revivals by NOW magazine. Appropriate for ages 8 and up.
Once Upon a Time in 1812: A Night of Stories and Songs
Thursday, April 25, 7:00 pm
Travel back in time to 1812 in this evening of storytelling and musical performance. Heritage performer Pauline Grondin presents Stories of Women in Upper Canada During the War of 1812. The performance will include stories about the women who stayed at home and those that lived in soldiers' encampments. Following Grondin's performance, singer Marcel Bénéteau takes the mike to sing French songs about war and soldiers' lives.
