For all of you within driving distance of Hamilton,Ontario. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is hosting an exhibit "The Eye of Napoleon" until May 2013.It is the North American premiere of the exhibit, and I believe one of two stops in Canada.
I visited the exhibit yesterday and was impressed. It contains items from Napoleon's own property, and items he gave to friends and political cronies, his relatives, whom he made kings of various territories in Europe. Anyone interested in the material culture of the court, and its hangers-on, the propaganda that Napoleon encouraged etc. would find the exhibit very satisfying.
One of the most interesting pieces for me was a modest one - Napoleon's campaign bed which he used in the "Hundred Days" leading up to Waterloo. It is made of hinged metal, and looks remarkably like a Canadian Tire camp bed!!
Highly recommended. Entry cost is $10, which gives you access to the rest of the Gallery. For those of you wishing to attend the 2013 Symposium, the AGH is located directly across Main Street from the Sheraton Hotel.
