Please see the attached message regarding a St. Louis Area Undergraduate Research Symposium. Please forward this to your chairs and faculty and post or distribute as appropriate to students. Note the deadlines for submission. Please also note that they are seeking faculty judges. And, they are asking for help in publicizing so I am copying Barbara for a note in Webster
My name is Laura Pawlow and I coordinate the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Program (URCA) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Last year we were asked to host the 2013 St. Louis Area Undergraduate Research Symposium (STLAURS), an annual event held each spring that allows undergraduates from several outstanding St. Louis area universities the opportunity to present their research in a professional setting. Any undergraduate student from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, St. Louis University, University of Missouri at St. Louis, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Webster University, Washington University or SIUE who has conducted research under the supervision of a faculty
mentor is invited to submit an application and abstract. The event will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at SIUE’s Morris University Center. The application deadline is Monday, April 1, 2013. STLAURS provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the research of their peers and network with faculty mentors.
You will soon be receiving via mail a packet containing fliers advertising the event. Please feel free to copy those as necessary and distribute around your campus. I’d also like to encourage you to advertise this event via your university’s websites, list-serves, social media sites, and word of mouth; feel free to use the attached fliers for those purposes. The event is free to participating students and includes a light breakfast (coffee, sweet rolls, and doughnuts), sit-down lunch, and the chance to hear our Keynote Speaker, a nationally recognized expert in undergraduate research, Dr. John Mateja. We have the ability to host approximately 100 students, so the application process will be a competitive one.
For more information about STLAURS, including the day’s schedule of events, application and presentation instructions, a biography of Dr. Mateja, campus maps, awards, and the application submission portal, please visit our website at www.stlaurs.weebly.com. Additionally, your campus may have some student members of the STLAURS Inter-School Planning Board. The names and e-mail addresses of the lead board
member from each campus can be found below. These students will be happy to work with you to recruit from your campus.
As a final note, we will be looking for faculty to help judge projects that day. If you, or someone else on your campus, would be interested in serving as a judge, I would love to have your help! Finally, if I have received your name as your institution’s undergraduate program director in error, I apologize and ask that you please forward me the name of the correct person.
Thank you and have a great day!
