Forming Shire of Ketelblastr
Saturday July 11th 2009 6:00pm
Hollie Salazar-Deputy Chronicler, JP Salazar-Seneschal, Tobi Burgoyne, Lenore Koski-MAoS, Don German, Guyle Burgess, Virginia Burgess, Cassandra Gibbs-Chronicler, Lawrence Brozzo, Lea & Jacob Kravetz, Kristian Popko, Tina Popko-Exchequer
Guests-Zach Rollins, Jamie Brown, Lord Jorund Larsson
Today Ketelblastr had our second culinary challenge and a great feast was had and enjoyed. Dishes brought were as following
Tina: Chicken pasties - a chicken breast with bacon and sage in a basic dough.
Lea: Cockaleekie soup - a soup made of chicken and leeks.
Virginia: Boars head turkey - a sweetened turkey breast. Drinks - lemon water, apple juice, sweetened Chai tea
Don: Norse flatbread - a round of rye squished flat by JP served with butter. Cheese tray - cheddar and mozzarella.
Cassie & Lawrence : Stuffed mushrooms - baby bella caps stuffed with either Feta or Mozzarella, basil, oregano breadcrumb stuffing. Side stuffing - remaining stuffing with bacon.
JP and Hollie: Tortelli - A fried saffron cracker with a sweet walnut, almond and hazelnut filling. Strawberries with snowe - Strawberries marinated in a wine mixture with a egg white and cream whipped topping.
JP brought the spices Lady Conandil Glass was kind enough to send him. JP is going to thank her by sending spices/herbs, and is making her a pendant. Tina is contributing homemade white lacing. A thanks certificate and scroll box will be presented to her as well.
Don explained a bit more on registering the proposed website with info such as cost, name of a domain hosting company. The company is called domainnamesanity.com and offers full featured websites for $62 a year, complete with registered domain.
A poll had been posted on the yahoo group for the name of the proposed newsletter. According to the Yahoo poll "Scattered Stones" had the majority vote. We found out that not everybody had voted so a vote was held at the "thing". By show of hands, "Scattered Stones" had the final majority vote and will be our newsletters title. The name of "Northwoods Noggin Droppins" was not presented on the poll due to JP's veto and the advice of some higher-up chroniclers. It will be kept however as a title for a feature in our newsletter.
Change of Officer Forms
The chain of command was explained and everyone now knows who exactly they have to report to so that this mistake will not be made again.
Lenore has her quarterly MoAS report due soon. This is Ketelblastr's first MoAS report. Lenore asked that we all update our database entry so that she knows what everyone has been working on and can make a thorough and detailed report.
Concerning the previous reports from Tina and Virginia about what happened at the LSRF, JP contacted Cy and he is taking care of the situation.
At the Faire wrap up party Karen Mallum suggested we keep the date and hold an SCA event at Norrie Park. We will need to make sure the date is available and non-conflicting with any other SCA events before making any plans.
Ketelblastr was the recipient of gifts from the late LSRF/MARS including Faire t-shirts, tokens, fabric bordering, stickers, and token pouches. Also offered to us was the jousting game. Whether or not we keep the joust is up for debate yet. JP took inventory of our gifts and gave Tina a detailed inventory.
JP asked the Kingdom Herald about posting up our groups device. He asked about rules and regulations concering the Laurel as well as registration. No response or info as of yet. JP found that we would be "blazoned vert, a cauldron argent fimbriated sable". Don brought up the fact that the fimbriation-or black outline- was not necessary in the description as it was not a very prominent feature. The group voted and by majority vote we will leave out the fimbriation from the blazoning and will thus be "vert, a cauldron argent".
Article For Globe
Ginny was told she could contact a person at the Globe and it would be possible for them to get us another article as a follow up to the LSRF article that focused almost entirely on Darkstone. JP told Ginny that the article he had written would be more beneficial than a follow up article. For the next Thing we are to look over the letter and tweak it to our liking. The final draft will be a mixture of the best of all versions. Once the final draft is complete JP will submit it for Kingdom approval, after which it will be submitted to the Globe.
Pells and Rattan Workshop
No date set as of yet for the pell and rattan workshops. Lawrence and Tobi have yet to pick up their paid for LST's. JP is going to contact local carpet stores to see if they will donate any scraps or sell them at a discount. Cassie informed the group she has a lead on 3 whole rolls of carpet. She will let us know in future if she is able to obtain them.
Mark informed us that Darkstone (and the Ashland Fencing Club) will be holding demos next weekend the 18th and 19th during Ashland's Bay Days festival. They will be having an encampment located where the old fort used to be on HWY 2. Mark invited us to participate (in garb) or to just come and hang out with our sponsor group. It looks like many of us will be making it on Saturday July 18th.
Mark will let us know what times Darkstone will gather there at a later date.
Throughout the following A&S session Hollie finished the pennon she has been working on. It looks great!
The Next Thing
Due to Ketelblastr's attending Bay Days in Ashland there will be no Thing held next week. The next Thing will be held on Saturday July 25th at 4:00pm at Powdermill Resort.
