New Year's Ball
-Our group has been discussing holding an event, a New Year's Masked Ball to be specific. It seems to be the concensus that it should be held in a midieval time period, though more research needs to be done. Other choices are Dark Ages and Renaissance.
-We need to either buy or make our decorations. Ideas for types of decorations are tapestries, pennons, banners etc. Other ideas were skins, and mouted animals, mainly deer and plumage from game birds, as well as candle light and use of the facilities' fireplaces. It was decided that we should start working on tapestries and things of the sort for use in further events or gatherings of any sort. Tina will research what types of decorations and tapestries were used in Norse culture. Ben Franklin can order fabrics and related supplies specific to our needs should we like to make use of their services and offers.
-There are grants available to help fund events like these, but we need to find out how the SCA works with grants and grant monies, and if we would even be eligable for them. As for other monies, we will be holding one or two more fund raisers to raise money for the event.
-Concerning food, we will have to secure a wholesale order to reduce costs, perhaps we could order through PMC. Research needs to be done into period authentic foods (once the time period has been established). We will also need to make sure that the kitchens and refridgerators at PMC are in working order.
-A series of polls will be posted to find out what the group's preferences are for the ball.
Another Fund Rasier
We have begun to discuss a Mother's Day fund raiser to prospectively be held at WalMart since they match all funds raised. It would be a combination bake and craft sale. Ideas for products include baked goods, arts and crafts such as pouches, ornaments, burned leather, jewelry, leather jewelry, runes, customized pendants, etc.
Updating of Group Officers on Northshield Website
JP brought up the fact that we should update the Kingdom as well as the Kingdom website of our new officer positions. JP will take care of writing to our Kingdom Seneschal with the new information.
Meeting With Darkstone Officers
The group discussed a meeting with Darkstone officers so that we can talk about paperwork that will be due very soon (i.e. the quarterly Exchequer Report), or in the near future (Such as the Seneschals Report), as well as our responsibilities. JP will contact THL Cy about getting the officers down for a meeting so we can discuss matters. Also, we could speak about matters of Dance Macabre which were brought up a couple meetings ago.
New S.C.A. Members
JP announced that He is now an official Sustaining member of the S.C.A. and that Hollie and Cody have become members through the family plan. This means JP is officially able to hold the Seneschal position.
-Hollie brought up advertising in the "Happenings" section of the "American Profiles" publication found in the Daily Globe for our proposed ball. It is free, though we need to submit our ad 4 months in advance. We will also mention the idea to Darkstone for their Dance Macabre.
A Page In The Birchwood Alt. School Yearbook
Lawrence asked if the group would be interested in supporting the Birchwood Alt. School by giving a donation towards the publication of their yearbook. The proposed donation would range from $20-$35. In return, the group would get anywhere form a quarter to full page greyscale ad (depending on our donation level). JP will create a couple of designs and bring them to the next meeting which will be used should we vote to donate.
-We will be voting on the matter next week to see if we will donate. Any one who wishes to vote but cannot be present may vote via proxy or via this group in a poll that will be posted.
Read Your Handbook
JP suggested that all officers read their respective handbooks so that we may be more aware of our duties. He will post up the link that will take you to the SCA library of handbooks. It is also suggested that fighters read up on their respective handbooks for Rapier or Heavy Combat.
Lenore has posted up some links on the group site concerning childrens activities, Cassie has looked through them. Hollie has also brought up some neat activities from the Oriental Trading Co. catalog. She found Shields that children could color, as well as foam swords. other ideas were tiaras and poster board helms like one that Kristian made.
Stuff To Do, Places To Go
The group talked about attending a few events together such as Renn Faires and SCA events. Faires discussed were Twigg, Bristol, and Ishpeming. SCA events discussed were Road to the Isle XIII hosted by Mystig Waetru, as well as Beltane hosted by our sponsors, Darktone
Misc:-Don fell asleep and wasn't able to make the meeting. We all got a kick of the call-in.
-The old minutes from 02/07/09 are still missing in action. We wholeheartedly believe that the Dragon ate them.
Ketelblastr will have our next meeting on Saturday, March 28th beginning at 4:00pm at Powder Mill Creek.
We will be holding a vote, so it is kindly requested that all our officers be there. As mentioned above, you may vote via proxy, or online in the poll which will be posted. Also, If the Darkstone officers show up, it would be benecial for you to be there and speak to your counterpart.
It will be preceded by line drilling and no-contact drills which will begin after the meeting at Powder Mill Creek, as always this is unless some Darkstone Marshals show up, in which case there will be some fighting going on!! En Guarde!
Also, let it be known that Don (D'Fence School of the Sword) will be hosting a foil fencing class on Thursday, March 26th from 6:00 - 9:00pm at Powder Mill Creek. If you are interested in foil fencing, show up.
