March 21st is Benito Juarez's birthday and a national holiday, banks, schools and government offices will be closed in Mexico. It is also the first day of spring and the equinoxe will be celebrated at many places. Schools will have special programs where you can see kids dressed in spring theme costumes doing dances. There will also be celebrations at many different pyramids with folklore dancing. Many people go thinking they will receive power from the pyramid, sharpen razors, receive good luck, etc., You can expect big crowds at the great pyramid of Cholula, at Cempoala, Veracruz and at The pyramid of flowers at the xochitecatl archeological zone, also in Teotihuacan. There will be an extra large crowd at Chichen itza because at the moment of the equinoxe (noon), a shadow of a snake can be seen crawling down the pyramids steps, an optical illusion created by prehispanic Mayan architects.
Also there will be many government celebrations honoring Benito Juarez who was president during the mid 1800`s who brought about many reform laws and had to endure the invasion of French forces.
Lots to see, have a great day...
