I had a PM from a member mentioning they hadn't heard from me for a while, and figured since I'd written the response, I might as well post the details here for the group members as well.
I think I mentioned I had a my half-sister visiting me in Adelaide (from the UK) during April, and along with my daughter, mum, sister & niece we went on holiday to Bali in April.
When I returned at the end of that month, work was extremely hectic. Between our coordinator retiring about a week after I got back, and his replacement following a couple of weeks later for health reasons, while we were already breaking in a new manager (who started while I was on leave in April), I was the most experienced person in the section. I've had to turn down the coordinator's job no less than *4* times.
Did I mention that this all occurred at the same time that the government tenders were being offered? This is what actually pays for the work of our section, as well as a stack of other services delivered. So in addition to not having a coordinator (and we still don't), and no experienced manager - we also had an 85,000k character (max) tender to prepare to justify why we should be granted another Deed to deliver services.
...And I managed to catch the god-awful flu that's been going around - apparently the worst in several years. I spent most of a week and a half at home sick, but still editing and rewriting the tender at all hours of the day and night - and that includes at least two weekends. We got it submitted at 8.15pm the night before tenders had to be submitted - and then my manager succumbed to the flu as well.
One of our other team members has been off sick with the flu as well, and our admin support was in a car accident and off for about three weeks when we could least afford it. Even now she's only back about 5 hours/day. I'm only just getting over my flu & my manager's just been back at work the last couple of days. I've got about 2 weeks worth of work to catch up on that I couldn't do while tendering.
One of the reasons I didn't want to be the coordinator was because I wanted to be able to simply go to work, do my job, and then come home without having to worry about other things needing to be done - eg, no other responsibilities. I've already 'been there and done that' as a senior manager with the last company I worked for. Unfortunately if I don't act in the job then there literally isn't anyone else until we get a new coordinator started and established in their role. The new manager is excellent, but she doesn't have the depth of knowledge required to try and coordinate our section while also being responsible for the other services in the building as well.
Anyway, that's why I haven't posted anything for a while. I've barely even read the forums let alone participate in them (ToP included). I was hoping to get back into writing once the tender was lodged, but so far I'm still heading to bed between 7 and 9pm due to fatigue. To clarify, it's around 7 or 8pm during the week after work & this last weekend has been about 9/9.15pm both nights. While I'm not coughing as I have been over the previous 3 weeks, I still haven't recovered from the flu and basically, I'm exhausted.
All I can say is that the next chapter will arrive when it arrives, and I haven't started it yet.
PS. No, it won't be another 3 years before I get back to it...
