Tomorrow evening, November 2, 2007, at 7:30 PM, at the monthly meeting of the Vocal Record Collectors' Society at Christ Church Methodist, Park Avenue at 60th Street, in New York City, Seth B. Winner and Teri Noel Towe will present a programme entitled "The Diamond Jubilee of the Bach Aria Group, Part 2". This programme will focus on recordings of the Bach Aria Group made at the ensemble's Town Hall concerts between 1951 and 1957.
The vocal soloists in these remarkable private recordings, which have been made available by William H. Scheide, the Founder and first Director of the Bach Aria Group, include Marian Anderson, Erna Berger, Eileen Farrell, Norman Farrow, Mack Harrell, George London, Elaina Nikolaidi, Jan Peerce, Carol Smith, Blanche Thebom, Jennie Tourel, and William Warfield. In many cases, these artists are heard in repertory that they never recorded or sang again in public.
Meetings of the Vocal Record Collectors' Society are open to non-members. A contribution to the VRCS from non-members is welcome, but not mandatory.
"Those in charge are odd and ambivalent towards music, which means I have to live with almost non-stop vexation, envy, and persecution."
Johann Sebastian Bach, October 28, 1730
