WHARTON – Joe Pete Chumchal, 84, of Wharton, died Friday night in a Wharton Hospital.
Born Jan. 27, 1896, in Gonzales, he was a retired Wharton County farmer and rancher.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Burial will be in Wharton City Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Knesek Chumchal of Wharton; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lee Kubena of Edna and Mrs. Martha Janik of Wharton; six sons, Eddie, Louis, Bennie and Daniel Chumchal Sr. of Wharton, Joe Chumchal Jr. of East Bernard and Pete Chumchal of El Campo; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Genger of East Bernard, Mrs. Albina Coil of San Antonio, Mrs. Agnes Ronvicka (Konvicka?) of Conroe and Ms. Toni Chumchal of Magnolia; two brothers, Philip Chumchal of Hungerford and Barney Chumchal of Pledger; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
