Shirley Ann Starry departed from this earth on June 11, 2011 after a brief illness. Guided by her angels she went peacefully in her sleep at home without pain, with her daughter, Roxane by her side. She was born on May 4, 1935. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated salutatorian from Sundeen High School earning a full scholarship to college. Another significant accomplishment in her young life was recording a record with one of her own songs. She had a natural ability when it came to music, learning to play several instruments, writing songs and performing in front of audiences. One of her true joys in life was singing. She was in various choirs over the years. Shirley enjoyed searching for treasures, be it at garage sales or resale shops. Spending time with her family was perhaps her greatest joy in life. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
Deceased family members include both parents: Ernest and Nellie Starry; children: Judy Leshko and T.J.
Shirley leaves behind three children: Walter Darby III (Dusty) of Houston, Texas, Mary Russo of Austin, Texas and Roxane Cash of San Antonio, Texas; she had 10 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and four great- great- grandchildren; she is also survived by three siblings: Ernest Starry Jr. (Thelma) of Robstown, Texas, Theresa Moore (Jim Bailey) of Corpus Christi, Texas and Bill Starry (Julie) of Corpus Christi, Texas; she had many nieces, nephews and friends. On a special note, Vance Cash, previous son-in-law, provided invaluable care to her during the past few years.
Visitation will be held at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M., with a Rosary to be recited at 12:00 Noon. Funeral Services will follow Rosary. Internment at Seaside Memorial Park Cemetery.
