Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother and friend, April
passed into God's loving arms in the early evening of August 22 at her Austin
home with family at her side.
April was born August 30, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky, the only and
cherished child of Conger and Ellen Poage. She moved to Austin shortly
thereafter and was raised in one of the first homes in Tarry Town on Indian
Trail. April graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1951 then attended
Mt. Vernon College in Washington DC where she received a degree in Early
Childhood Education in 1953. April loved children, and her love and skill with
them was demonstrated time and again in the time she spent teaching preschool
before she married, and then throughout her life as she raised her daughters and
her grandchildren. April made each day special and truly earned her name, "Grand
April shared her love with many organizations for whom she volunteered.
She was a former Board member of Helping Hand Home, did volunteer work at St.
David's Hospital, chaired PTA at her daughters' school, and served on a number
of committees at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church where her parents were founding
Everyone that knew April loved her. She always had a smile on her face
and lived life to its fullest. Like her parents who owned All Air Sea Travel,
April loved to travel, and she explored many exciting places making friends
wherever she went. Whether she was off on a cruise or visiting her
grandchildren, April saw life as a great adventure.
April felt lucky to have two great loves in her life. She married William
Jonathan Woolsey in February, 1954. April and Billy Jon had two girls, Laura
Lynn and Ellen Poage. In August, 1999, April married Loree Svadlenak and moved
to his home in Portland, Texas. Svad's children, Loree Lynn Foreman, Leslie
Ratliff and Larry Svadlenak and their spouses and children welcomed April and
surrounded her with love.
Those left to cherish April's memory are her husband, Loree Svadlenak and
his family, her daughters and their husbands, Laura Woolsey Duggan and husband,
Brad; Ellen Poage Mosher and husband, Byron; her grandchildren, Kerry Ellen
Duggan, April Frances Mosher, Kathryn Leigh Duggan and Travis Conger Mosher; and
cousin, Dr. Scott T. Poage of Waco.
A memorial service celebrating April's life will be held on Saturday,
August 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 3201 Windsor Road,
Austin, Texas. The family will receive friends following the service at April's
Austin home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to
