Last Rites Held For Frank G. Poessel
Funeral services were held for a prominent Beasley and East Bernard farmer and rancher, Frank G. Poessel, a nephew of Mrs. Albert Pustejovsky of this city, March 19th. A family rosary was said on Friday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Triska-Davis-Dawson Funeral Home in East Bernard; and at 8:30 on the same night the Christian Wake Service was held by Father Rachunek.
The Funeral Mass was held Saturday, March 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Father Henry C. Rachunek, pastor of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley, where Frank was a member, was the main celebrant of the Mass and services. Msgr. John Kukral of East Bernard and Msgr. Jerome Tydlacka of Rosenberg were con-celebrants.
Lector was Joe Kopecky, Jr., a nephew of Weslaco, and the East Bernard organist and choir fulfilled his wish. Leonard Fajkus and Larry and Kenneth Kendziora from Beasley served the Mass and graveside services.
Casketbearers were nephews.
Mr. Poessel was born July 17, 1919 to the late William and Annie Janis Poessel in the East Bernard community and attended school at the Holy Cross Parochial School and at Muldoon. He passed away suddenly at his home on March 16th at the age of 57 years, 7 months and 29 days.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served for five years with the Signal Corps in the States, Canada and South Pacific Islands. He kept in close contact with all of his services buddies to the very end.
On August 25, 1947 he was united in Holy Bonds of Matrimony to Sylvia Ann Hajek at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church at Moravia, Texas. They were blessed with a son, Frank G. Poessel, Jr.
Surviving are his wife Sylvia; son Frank, Jr.; mother, Mrs. Annie Poessel of East Bernard; six sisters, Mrs. Jerome (Frances) Kubala, Mrs. Joe (Tillie) Dusek, Mrs. Lee (Gertrude) Hillmann, all of East Bernard, Mrs. Joe (Betty) Kopecky of Weslaco, Mrs. Arnold (Annie) Dusek of Rosenberg, Mrs. Ted (Mary) Malek of Edna; and one brother, William Poessel of Hamshire. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hajek of Moravia; and seven brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law; 27 nieces and nephews; and 46 great nieces and nephews whom he so much admired and loved.
Mr. Poessel was very active in his church. He never forgot about God among all of his duties and work at home. He was a lector, member of the parish council, Holy Name Society, member of K.J.T. of East Bernard, usher and a hard worker at the parish game parties and bazaars. He will be missed by all a great deal.
Arrangements were under the direction of Triska-Davis-Dawson Funeral Home of East Bernard. Burial was in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.
