David John Mazel, age 58, of Wharton,
died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at El Campo Memorial Hospital following a sudden
He was born on May 23, 1947, in Wharton, the son of the late Sylvester Joe
Mazel and Matilda Emily Kostka Mazel.
Mr. Mazel was a longtime resident
of Wharton and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He was a
former resident of Breckenridge. He was a 1965 graduate of Wharton High School
and later attended and graduated from Tarleton State University with a degree in
He was a veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict having served in the U. S. Army.
Mr. Mazel was the owner of the Wharton Farm and Ranch Store in Wharton. He
was a member of American Legion Post No. 87 in Wharton.
A Rosary was recited Sunday evening, Feb. 12, 2006, at the chapel of
Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13,
2006, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Raymond
Graveside services followed at Evergreen Memorial
Park Cemetery in Wharton with military graveside honors provided by American
Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton.
Survivors include his very best friend,
Linda Bijarro of Wharton; daughters, Sandra E. Morris of Azel, and Sarah Mazel
of Breckenridge; son and daughter-in-law, Will and Amanda Mazel of Cisco; sister
and brother-in-law, Janice and Donald Rejsek of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Lane
and Luke Morris, Reece and Emily Jo Ann Mazel; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins
and a niece and nephew.
Pallbearers were Charles Mazel, James Mazel,
Dennis Mazel, John Evans, Jim Evans and Charles Grant.
pallbearers were all the members of the American Legion Post No. 87 in Wharton.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
