PRESS RELEASE CZECH FILMS AT THE CHS LIBRARY
Our first Czech film to be shown this year at the Czech Heritage Library will be Tri Orisky Pro Popelku. This is a Czech version of the Cinderella story. The film stars Libuse Safrankova as the title character , a young girl who is cruelly treated by her stepmother and stepsisters. However, the Czech version has a different twist to the story. When a handsome prince comes looking for a wife, Cinderella does not simply fall into the prince’s arms. Instead, he must actively pursue a mysterious young woman who is a skilled sharpshooter wearing a hunting outfit as a disguise. Instead of only 1 night of magic, this Cinderella has 3 wishes at her disposal, courtesy of 3 magical nuts. This classic fairy tale is filmed amidst the beautiful scenery of Czech castles and country sides. The haunting Cinderella melody sung by Karel Gott adds a lyrical quality to the film.
As always, the films at the library are shown free of charge. In the months of January, February, March, April, May, August, September, and October, the films will be shown on the last Wednesday evening of each month. You will notice that June and July are summer vacation months and November and December are the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday months. All films are in Czech but with English subtitles. Curtain time begins at 7:00 pm. The location of the library is at 4117 Willowbend, Houston , Texas . This is just south of the 610 Loop between South Post Oak and South Main . For further information concerning the film or directions, call Lillian Pivonka at 713-861-7403.
