For the Week of January 3, 2005
SOONERS GET BACK TO WORK
OU PREPARES FOR BUSY MONTH OF ACTION
HAPPY NEW YEAR – The Sooners wish you and your family a very safe and prosperous New Year in 2005 and look forward to seeing you at the rink as they resume play for the 2004-2005 regular season.
NEXT UP FOR THE SOONERS – The University of Oklahoma® (14-4-1) hockey club returns to action on Friday, January 14th and Saturday, January 15th, 2005, when they host national powerhouse Weber State University . The Wildcats, from Ogden , Utah , are currently ranked 7th in the most recent American Collegiate Hockey Association (“ACHA”) Division 1 rankings.
RANKINGS – The Sooners did not receive enough votes to place in the most recent official regular season Division 1 Top 20 ranking; however, Oklahoma did receive votes and if the rankings were extended, OU would have been ranked 21st. The next official ACHA D1 rankings are scheduled to be released on January 21, 2005. The Sooners are ranked 16th in the nation in the unofficial computer ranking of ACHA D1 teams (http://wnyhshockey.8m.com/rankings/acharank.html).
BUSY JANUARY – January will be a challenging month for the Sooners as they will face three high-quality ACHA D1 opponents on successive weekends. No. 7 ranked Weber State invades Oklahoma City on January 14 & 15 to take on the Sooners. OU visits Tucson, Arizona the next week to play a pair of games on January 21 & 22 against the IceCats of the University of Arizona, who would have been ranked 22nd had the rankings been extended. The Sooners finish up the month in Ames , Iowa as they take on Big XII rival and No. 9 ranked Iowa State University on January 28 & 29.
HOME SWEET HOME – Although formally known as Blazers Ice Centre, when the Sooners take the ice to “ Oklahoma !” and “Boomer Sooner” blares over the sound system after every Sooners goal, the rink transforms into the “ Sooners Ice Center ”. All Sooners home games are played at 7:30 P.M. at Blazers Ice Centre, 8000 South I-35, in Oklahoma City .
TICKETS – Individual tickets for all remaining OU Hockey games are on sale now and can be purchased at Blazers Ice Centre. Call 631-3307 or 631-2709 for additional information.
PRACTICE SCHEDULE – The Sooners are back from the holiday break and have resumed their practice schedule. The Sooners practice this week at the Blazers Ice Centre on Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M, on Wednesday from 8:45-10:30 P.M., and on Thursday from 7:30-8:45 P.M.
