<< Are you sure Charlie? A few years ago, Cirque had an ad in ED (then
called whatever it was) advertizing for staff. They were looking for
experienced techs with scuba experience. Some of the posts were for Show
Control. Of course, we know that that was 'O'. Dang. Having seen it, I
wished I had applied. Great show. But I feel sure there's some form of
show control, in some form. Anyone on the list seen what they have? Or
even better, can anyone on the list get me a quick tour? I'm in Vegas for
a show next week. >>
My first full time show control tech was hired away by O becuase he was great
AND he was a licensed SCUBA dude. It was bad for me, but good for him. He
has given me a couple of tours. A TON of equipment, but true, no "show
control" as we know it. They use industrial controllers all over. Most are
extremely expensive, but in reality have very pow powered processors etc.
Interesting stuff. Basically used to manipulate all the winches and hoists
etc. Since they use live musicians, lighting techs, and have to modify the
acts based upon the actors, the automation is handled by humans triggering
industrial controllers on cue etc.
Have fun in Vegas!
