ALUVA: Tension mounted in the Thrikkunnath seminary area when the raasa procession in connection with the Orma Perunnal of the Metropolitans by devotees of Jacobite Church led by Fr Jacob Poulose Kochuparambil entered the seminary compound to conduct the doopa prayer at the tombs of the Metropolitans in the seminary church here this evening.
Members of the Jacobite faction were allowed to conduct the doopa prayer reportedly on the basis of an understanding reached between the two factions under the initiative of District Collector Mohemed Haneesh and Police Superintendent M Wahab.
The members of the Orthodox faction who had gathered in the seminary chapel to conduct the sandya prayer led by Catholicos Didimos, protested strongly against the entry into the seminary compound by the Jacobite faction followers and their conducting doopa prayers at the tombs.
The timely and prudent approach of the police prevented any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, there were some tense moments when two intruders allegedly belonging to the Jacobite faction were caught from the prayer hall of the Orthodox faction near the seminary church. The police took both of them into custody immediately.
The Orthodox supporters alleged that the police were executing a hidden agenda of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The Orthodox supporters shouted slogans against Chandy and tried to prevent the Jacobite faction from entering the seminary.
Metropolitan Yuhanon Mar Milithios of the Orthodox faction alleged that the action of the Jacobite faction entering the seminary areas today was with the connivance of the Government and the police.
We will face the issue politically and legally, Catholicos Didimos of Orthodox Church said.
